Armed to the teeth with Rickenbacker, great songs, and a love of pop-injected rock and roll, The Naked Choyas' Let's Go will more than satisfy the sweet tooth while demonstrating the band's rock and roll passion.
Something To Believe In opens the set, and what an opener! Here we have a great hard-guitar pop track with a solid vocal and incredibly catchy chorus. Equally impressive is Daren Sweet's lead guitar work. This guitarist loves to cuts loose, but does it all with the up most taste and never lets his playing become a distraction. The choppy lead guitar in Yesterday's Perfume adds much to a great song already loaded with hooks. The verses here are very melodic, and vocalist/guitarist Wil Musa turns in a fine vocal.
On the pop side of things, It Could Happen is a standout with its great guitar hook that really reels you in. Some memorable lyrics are at work here, too. The band favors a more classic ringing guitar-pop sound on Summer's Gone, another high point featuring a wonderful arrangement.
The Naked Choyas venture into a more roots-based rock and roll sound from time to time, and with great success. The opening of Backseat is an example of this, before giving way to its wonderful rhythm and chorus. Make It Last is another such example, with an effective and endearing acoustic guitar part in the background. The band even explores a more country feel on the CD's bonus cut.
The band's love of all-out rock and roll is apparent on many tracks on the appropriately titled Let's Go. Come See Me has a killer rock and roll groove that carries it above and beyond. The hard guitar sound of Touch works even better. While still hanging onto pop aesthetics, Touch works if only to demonstrate Sweet's taste and instincts.
If you like you’re pop nice and hard, and also love the marriage between it and roots-driven rock and roll, then The Naked Choyas are definitely for you. Personally, I think they may even do it best!

Claudio Sossi - Shake It Up
Excellent Arizona based power pop band arrive back on the scene with their follow-up to the excellent "Let's Go" debut from a few years back and this one features the "should be a hit" "Domino Star" to drive them towards being better known to a much larger audience. Featuring a ridiculously high-energy sound that has a broad commercial appeal beyond the 'power pop' tag, Spitshine features clean, crisp melodies, long, tasty hooks, powerful rhythms and a bevy of catchy choruses. As a nice change of pace, the Choyas lead vocalist has an earthy, gravely voice that is delightfully different than other pop voices (it works!) and all the songs take the listener through the dynamic roller coaster of lightening verses and fully loaded choruses. Riff, happy hooks swallow the listener up whole and bouncy, alluring melodies glide effortlessly. Very Highly Recommended!

I have to say that this is one of my favorites. The songs sound great and are a great mix of rocking pop. Reminds me of the heyday of good power pop rock stuff like Cheap Trick and Gin Blossoms. 5 stars!!!!

ON THE STREETS OF TEMPE, Arizona (CNN/SI) -- Somewhere around here, they're holding a football game.

But, evidently, that's not until Monday night.

On this night, smack dab in the middle of the Fiesta Bowl Block Party on New Year's Eve, 1998, football looks to be the fartherest thing from anyone's mind.

Booze, yes. Cigars and Polish sausages and tattoos and loud, loud music -- yes.
If you're thirsty -- and, with all those chips, who isn't? -- there are bars galore, beer gardens set up just for this event and, for the less wild among us, 16-ounce bottles of Pepsi One. In fact, there are some 40,000 bottles of the new Pepsi drink, every last one of them a freebie.

There are also rides for the kids, concerts on at least six different stages (bands ranging from the Goo Goo Dolls to The Naked Choyas), the Budweiser Clydesdales ... all leading up to midnight and the official ringing in of the new year.

When a giant chip -- no lie -- drops into a bowl of salsa.

Bring on the game!
